Stitched Collage with Anne Brooke Textile Artist - Saturday 21st November 2020
Saturday 21st November 2020
We are delighted to welcome back Anne Brooke to Needle & Thread! Anne is a mixed media textile artist, creating bespoke mixed media textile pieces of work that are combined with her love for drawing.
Instead of drawing with a pencil I use a needle and thread. I build up layers of paper and fabric, re-working my pieces with paint, ink, dyes and stamps before drawing on the surface with a sewing machine and needle. My inspiration comes from the walks and journeys I go on.
Starting with the first step and 'My Right Foot' I collect, draw and photograph the treasures that can go unnoticed and these become the inspiration for my work.
The Workshop: Working from an inspirational image we will create a collage of an animal or bird that up-cycles a range of papers to create a collage that will be ‘drawn’ over with your sewing machine and it can then be further embellished. This is the main technique I use in the majority of my work.
£80 including materials, equipment, mid morning cake (of course) and a healthy lunch!
If you wish to mount your piece bring along a box canvas (No bigger than A4) or these will be available from Anne to buy on the day for £5.
Materials will be provided, but some things you might like to bring along if you have them:
- An inspirational image to work from.
- Any wallpaper, old maps, paper bags, envelopes, wrapping paper, handmade paper, any paper in your stash, etc. Just make sure it is not too thick.
- Snippets of fabric
- Buttons, beads, embellishments etc.
- Camera / sketchbook to record the day / technique.
